Overview

Traffic control tailored to the NSW utility networks — Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy, Sydney Water, Jemena, Telstra, NBN Co. Standing arrangements, pit-and-pipe awareness, exclusion-zone compliance and 24/7 dispatch.

Utility traffic control is its own discipline. The work is network-dependent, the crews move fast, the exclusion zones are specific to each utility, and the after-hours demand is constant. We run standing arrangements with NSW utility operators and their contractors, with pre-negotiated rates, known controllers at depot lists, and 24/7 dispatch that genuinely picks up.

For Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy — the NSW electricity distributors — traffic control supports planned and fault response work. Planned work includes pole replacements, pit and substation maintenance, line upgrades, smart-meter rollouts and consumer mains upgrades. Fault response means power-lines-down, live-end hazards, pole strikes, and transformer failures. Our crews understand the electrical exclusion zones (typically 3m from live conductors for untrained personnel, with specific distances for different voltage classes under SafeWork NSW Code of Practice: Work Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines). We set up TGS perimeters that respect the exclusion zone while keeping traffic moving and we don't enter hot zones.

For Sydney Water — the largest NSW utility by asset length — we run both planned and reactive. Planned includes water main renewals, valve replacements, maintenance hole rehabilitation, water quality investigation pits, and meter works. Reactive means main bursts, sewer overflows and service connections. We're familiar with Sydney Water's JobSIS tasking, their contract standards for traffic control, their project hierarchy (Delivery Partners, Tier 2 and Tier 3 contractors), and their SWMS expectations for any work in the road corridor. For burst mains our after-hours response into an active Sydney Water job starts with arrival on scene and ends with demobilisation when the scene is fully restored.

For Jemena (gas network, parts of NSW) and other gas distributors we meet gas-specific exclusion zone requirements, maintain ignition-source separation, and coordinate with the repair crew on gas-free commissioning windows. Gas leaks are unambiguously a lights-and-sirens job — we treat them accordingly.

For Telstra, NBN Co, Optus and other telco operators, traffic control supports pit-and-pipe maintenance, fibre deployment, duct installation, cable recovery and active-equipment maintenance. The work is generally lower-risk than power or gas but high-volume, and often on residential streets where neighbour liaison becomes part of the job. Our residential crews are comfortable with telco pit works and the council footpath-permit process.

For major-project utility work — gas main renewals, electrical substation builds, water trunk-main installations — we scale up with TGS design, multi-crew coordination and longer-term standing arrangements. We've crewed utility upgrades across Parramatta, the CBD, the inner west, Western Sydney growth corridors and regional NSW.

Standing arrangements work like this: we sign a master services agreement with the utility or their principal contractor; we maintain named controllers on the depot list; we hold pre-agreed rate cards; we dispatch from a dedicated number that's answered in seconds; and we report shift-level data into the client's systems. For utility networks that run after-hours response across multiple metros (Ausgrid and Sydney Water in particular), the standing arrangement is what keeps response times tight when everyone else is asleep.

Our kit list for utility work is specific. Every vehicle carries cones, signage, beacons, radios, SWMS packs and full PPE including category 2 arc-rated options for crews working near live electrical infrastructure. We have VMS boards available on short notice for larger incidents and we can dispatch water-filled barriers overnight if a setup runs multiple shifts.

For utility customers directly — the homeowner who had Sydney Water come out overnight, the small builder doing a new connection — we understand the handoff. The utility job usually finishes with your end still open, and our TC package bridges that gap: we stay on site until your reinstatement is complete, manage the pedestrian detour, and hand over clean.
